Emblem

The goddess of Fame stands in the centre on the cornucopia of Plenty. A smith refuses to repair the sword of Mars, the god of War, but an engineer accepts a design from Clio, the muse of History. The kneeling figures represent Aesop‘s fable of the bundle of sticks, showing that unity is strength. The busts are Samuel Crompton, James Watt, and Sir Richard Arkwright. The Chicks are Chirrup and Cheep.
